Using The iPad Spotlight Search Feature

The iPad Spotlight search is a feature that will seamlessly find anything your looking for on your iPad in seconds. Instead of trolling through files and files of content just flick right on the Home screen and the Spotlight search bar should appear. You can also access it through the Home button.

Updating iOS

 

When updating the iPad iOS it is always good practice to plug in your iPad so the battery does not drain through the updating process. If the battery does drain through the updating process it can make your iPad inoperable.

 

Checking For New iOS

 

Once in a while check that your iOS is upto date. Updated iOS is been thrown out on a regular basis giving you access to new features.

To check if your iOS is upto date open iTunes, select your iPad under devices in the left hand  column and then summary. This will show you what iOS your iPad is running. If you want to check to see if your running the upto date iOS simply click on the “Check For Update” button.

Changing Keyboard Characters

 

To change the keyboard characters simply tap the key labelled ABC on either side of the spacebar. When using the number keyboard simply tap space to return to the letters keyboard.

 

iPad Sleeping Too Quickly

 

If your iPad goes into sleep mode too quickly for your likeing then change the time-out (preset to 5 mins) by pressing:

Settings > Auto-lock and then selecting the desired time.

 

Hide Battery Percentage

 

To show or hide the percrntage next to the bttery simply tap Settings > General > Battery Percentage tab

 

Quick Mute

 

To enable mute quicky instead of pressing the volume key down many times simply hold the volume down button for a couple of seconds.

 

Don’t Get Too Rough

 

Remember the iPads screen doesn’t react to pressure of touch it reacts to the electrical charge in your touch, so pressing harder won’t improve responsiveness.

Adding A Web Page To Your Home screen

 

To add a frequently or favorite website to your home screen simply press the “Add Bookmark” icon on the browsers task bar at the top and select “Add To Home screen”, now you shouldhave a webpage shortcut on your Home screen saving the hassle of opening your browser and finding the webpage in the traditional way.

 

Home Screen Limits

 

Remember that you can have upto 11 home screens that can accomodate anything from apps and videos to bookmarks and webpage links. Use them to add shortcuts of your most favorite and used  resources. Aslo you can add folders to organize your files freeing up even more space on your home screen.

 

Multiple Homescreens

 

When using multiple home screens little spots or dots appear at the bottom above the taskbar. These indicate which home screen is currenty been viewed, the highlighted spot been the screen you are viewing. Press to either side of the spots to move the select the home screen either side.

 

Add Apps To The Dock

 

You can add 2 more apps to the bottom dock of your iPad. Simply press and hold on the desired app and move down to the dock area. This is great for apps you frequently use and means they are always at your finger tips no matter which home screen your on.

Tired Of Junk Email?

If you get junk emails and want to stop them appearing in your Inbox then simply move them to Trash and anymore from that sender will automatically end up in the trash folder.

 

Change Your Email Signature

 

The default email signature “sent from my iPad” can be changed by going to Settings > Mail settings > Signature. Here you can set the signature for the end of your emails.

 

Email Alerts annoying The Hell Out Of You?

 

If your sick of the sickly email chime that sounds everytime you recieve an email then turn it off by going to:

Settings > General > Sounds and tap the On/Off button to rid yourself of those annoying chimes.

Tired Of Autofill?

 

If your iPAd annoyingly tries to fill in form details, especially your siblings names, then turn off the autofill option in the iPad settings.

 

Mistake Typing A URL

 

If you typing a long winded URL in the web browser and you make a mistake, instead of deleting the whole URL simply hold down on the text you want to correct until a magnifying glass and flashing cursor appears and then simply delete from there and retype the desired letter/word.

 

Opening A Link On A Webpage

 

To open a link on a webpage simply tap the link and a new page should open for that linked page, to see the full links address hols down on the link until a menu pops up which will give you the choice to either open in a new page or copy to the iPads clipboard allowing you to paste it in a document or email etc.

 

Syncing Bookmarks With Your PC

 

If your looking to sync your bookmarks on your iPad with your PC then make sure that the “Sync safari bookmarks” setting on the information tab is selected.

You don’t have to use iBooks to read eBooks on your iPAd. Amazons kindle is available for the iPad for free, giving you access to 100,000′s of books on the Kindle marketplace. You must use the Kindle app though as the iPad can’t render the eBooks without the app.

Organizing Your Apps

 

To move your apps about simply hold the your finger on any app and all the apps should start to jiggle, then move them to the desired areas or home screen by holding your finger on that app and without releasing, swipeing the app to the desired area. Press the Home button to stop the icons from jiggling.

 

Transfer Your Apps To iPad

 

If you have alot of apps on your iPhone and/or iPod then transfer them from iTunes to your iPad. Simply hold control (Windows) or command (Mac) and click on one of the apps to de-select all of them then select the required apps you want to transfer one-by-one.

 

Update Your Apps

 

When you buy apps the developer may wish to add updates to them, this will be shown by a  red circle on your App Store icon.

To update simply tap the App Store icon and then you will be shown a list, select the app that you require to update then tap the price button. To update all your apps that need updating in one foul swoop then simply  tap the “Update All” button.

Remember this will use data so your better off doing this on a Wi-Fi connection rather than a 3G data connection.

 

Check App Requirements Before Buying

 

Just be careful before buying an app. Some apps are only made for the 3G version of the iPad due to the GPS chip only installed on the 3G model, especially the apps that require a GPS connection.
